Interviewing 101

Interviewing for a job can be extremely stressful for anyone, but it is important to prepare yourself thoroughly before walking in the door. Doing research and studying up on information about the organization you are meeting with is a great start. Visit the company’s websites and social sites and establish a strong understanding of who they are and what they do as a whole, also it helps you to learn more about the job that you are trying to get. Another key component to a perfect interview is your resume.  Though this piece of paper may seem unimportant, it allows for hiring companies the opportunity to learn about your past experience and work ethic. Always keep your resume current and accurate and to not overwhelm your interviewee with redundant information, try to keep content to maximum of one page. Another key element for making a lasting impression is to show up at least 20 minutes early to any interview, make sure to take location and traffic into consideration before showing up. Dress for the position you want, it’s better to be overdressed that to wear jeans to an office job. During the interview, it is best to keep a steady eye contact with whomever you are interviewing with and always address them by the name they used to introduce themselves by. Finally, after your interview always send a handwritten thank you letter to the interviewee as soon as possible (even if you didn’t get the position).
